THE ROADMAP TO ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH LEADERSHIP

Our Roadmap identifies roles and actions that can place New York as a leader on definitive action against harmful chemicals, as well as on transparency, innovation, and the integration of chemical considerations into our definitions of sustainability.

1. TRANSPARENCY

Purchasers need to know what ingredients and materials are in the things that they buy. We need legislation that requires full disclosure of chemicals present in all consumer products, as well as their health hazards.

2. ACTION

Legislation must be passed to restrict hazardous chemicals, especially in common consumer products, and particularly when a pregnant woman or child may be exposed. When credible information indicates chemicals are hazardous, government and businesses need to limit their presence.

3. INNOVATION

Invest in safer options that incorporate green chemistry and engineering, and identify solutions based on inherently benign, reusable, repairable, and recyclable materials.

4. INTEGRATION

Detoxify the entire supply chain, by integrating chemical considerations into our definitions of sustainability. We can only fully transition from a linear supply chain to a circular one when we detoxify the materials within it.
